Three-spined stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus) is a small fish distributed in northern inland and coastal waters. Known for morphological diversity.
Habitat
Inhabits fresh, brackish and salt water, favouring slow flows with abundant vegetation. Found in ditches, ponds, lakes, backwaters, calm rivers, sheltered bays, marshes and harbours.
Diet
It is a carnivore; it feeds on zooplankton, benthic micro-invertebrates, crustaceans, mollusks, insect larvae and adult aquatic insects. It occasionally feeds on its own fry and eggs.
