Croatian fishing exam: preparation and practice
Recognise fish, revise the rules and find out what to study next.
Ribarica offers free fishing-exam practice through freshwater fish identification and questions about regulations. Start with a short session and move to more demanding levels. Your result describes that practice session; it is not an official examination certificate.
Start exam practiceWhat should I study?
- Fish identification and biology. Use the fish encyclopedia to compare appearance, names, habitats and diets. Revisit species you tend to confuse.
- Closed seasons, sizes and protection. Connect each fish to the closed-season and minimum-size reference. Distinguish seasonal closures from permanent protection and check local exceptions.
- Regulations and permits. Read the Croatian fishing permit guide and follow its official sources. Understand which water and permit each rule applies to.
- Check your understanding. Complete a practice session, revisit incorrect answers and read the relevant source again.
Which practice level should I choose?
- Beginner: 10 questions focused on fish identification and an introduction to regulations.
- Advanced: 20 questions combining fish species and regulations.
- Expert: 30 questions with a larger share of regulations and fish-stock management.
These are Ribarica's practice levels. Confirm the official examination format, syllabus and requirements with the organiser.
Sample questions and answers
Try answering each question before revealing the explanation.
These examples demonstrate how to connect a fact with a fish species. They are not presented as official examination questions.
Which fish ambushes prey from cover among aquatic plants?
Reveal answer and explanation
Northern pike. Still water, vegetation and cover suit its hunting behaviour. Compare its appearance and description on the northern pike (Esox lucius) page, which includes sources.
Which fish particularly favours fast rivers with gravel or stony beds?
Reveal answer and explanation
Barbel. Habitat helps connect a species with its way of life. Read the barbel (Barbus barbus) profile.
Why are a closed season and a minimum size different?
Reveal answer and explanation
A closed season concerns a prohibited period; a minimum size concerns the fish's size. Check protection status and local water rules alongside both. Use the species reference to study them together.
How do I find an exam organiser?
Select a county in the permit guide for contact information. Confirm dates, fees, documents and the current syllabus directly with the organiser. Consult the Croatian Sports Fishing Federation as well.
